Community Food Conference

The Food Trust, with many other Philadelphia-area organizations, is co-sponsoring the Community Food Security Coalition’s 2008 Annual Conference, “Re/Storing Our Urban and Rural Communities with Healthy Food.”

When: October 4-8, 2008

Where: Philadelphia, PA and Cherry Hill, NJ

Conference Highlights:

  • Keynote speakers and plenary panels on increasing availability of healthy foods in low-income communities.
  • Fifty workshops and film screenings focusing on food security at the community, municipal, global, and regional levels.
  • Trade show for leading nonprofit, academic, and government agencies in the community food and farming field.
  • All meals featuring locally grown or harvested foods.
  • Field trips to local markets, gardens, farms, retail stores, and related sites.
  • Pre-conference seminars on policy advocacy, farm to school, and related topics.
  • Welcome by Philadelphia and New Jersey political leaders.

Call for Local Workshops: Click here for the Request for Proposals for local workshops. The conference will feature a special track of selected workshops for presenters to showcase their local/regional programs, research, or issues related to food security, a healthy food system, and sustainable farming. Please note that the deadline to return the proposal form for presenting a Local Workshop is April 14, 2008.
